Biomass CFB Boiler Co-generation Project in Israel
05-06-2017
The article presents a preliminary feasibility study of project of biomass residue CFB boiler cogeneration power plant at food Industries in Israel. The project goal is to provide the plant with cheap and clean electric and thermal energy.
The essay serve a documented basis for joint project of erection and operation of biomass residue firing CHP (Combined Heat and Power) unit. 58 tons/hour of steam at 12 barg are generated in few heavy oil firing boilers and consumed in production process. The basic assumptions are that saw dust or/and wooden chips with LHV (Low Heating Value) 18,000 kJ/kg will be fired in a fluidized bed boiler producing about 30 ton/hour steam (about a half of needed process steam). The steam flow, passing through a back pressure turbine, will generate electricity corresponding to difference of enthalpies of fresh steam generated in the boiler and of one needed for process. From the turbine outlet the steam will be used, as today, for the technological process of the factory.
Technological scheme, consisting of boiler, back pressure steam turbine and electricity generator has been considered. The steam from boiler is led straightly to the back pressure steam turbine and after expansion in it the steam directed to plant steam distribution system. Two values have
been assumed: total steam flow 30 ton per hour and steam pressure at the turbine outlet (12 barg). Thermoflow code was used for modeling of the electricity generation in back pressure turbine when 30 t /hour steam passes through it with the goal to determine steam cycle parameters. A series of computations showed that the ~ 2.2 MW of electricity can be generated when steam pressure at the turbine inlet is 60 barg and temperature 460 0C. The results of the computations permitted to determine requirements for the needed boiler and steam turbine and to ask the manufacturers for proposals. The proposal for boiler received from Techno-Heat PVT (India) and for turbo-generator from Siemens (Germany) served basis for future considerations.
